Hong Kong's Russian Manicure Listings Are Mostly New

Three of the six most prominent Russian manicure listings in Hong Kong have fewer than ten reviews each. Nail By Passion, on the tenth floor of Nan Fung Centre in Tsuen Wan, has six. Cherry Nails L'amour at the Kai Tak retail mall in Kowloon City has four. Nail@Twenty, inside the Apple Mall at Dragon Centre in Sham Shui Po, has one. All three show a 5.0 rating, and a 5.0 built on a single review is not something you can act on.

One listing stands apart. Ooh La La NAILS occupies a room on the 23rd floor of Bayfield Building on Hennessy Road in Wan Chai and carries 276 reviews at 4.8, the only review history here long enough to absorb an off day. Soulsister Nail is also filed under Wan Chai, above Jardine's Bazaar in Causeway Bay, with 33 reviews at 4.9. SKiN U Aesthetic, a pay-per-visit beauty salon in an office tower on Wing Hong Street in Lai Chi Kok, has 56 reviews at 4.9.

What the totals look like

25 businesses across Hong Kong list a Russian manicure. Twelve of them carry a rating at all, which leaves two with none, and the average across the rated ones is 4.6, with eight sitting at 4.5 or above. That average is doing less work than it appears to, because most of it rests on very small numbers of reviews.

The treatment itself explains part of the spread. A Russian manicure is worked dry, with an e-file used to lift and clean the cuticle close to the nail plate, so the result depends far more on the individual technician's hand than on the salon's fit-out. A one-chair studio with four reviews can be very good. It simply has no way to demonstrate that yet, and the usual shortcut of sorting by rating will not help you here.

Most of these are filed under Nail Salons, though SKiN U Aesthetic is a general beauty salon offering this alongside other services. Where that is the case, ask who actually performs the manicure and how long they have worked with an e-file. Several of the venues also sit on upper floors of commercial or industrial buildings rather than at street level, so it is worth confirming the floor and room number before setting out.

None of the Hong Kong listings currently take bookings through Glow360, so appointments are arranged with the salon directly. If a listing on this page is out of date, send the details to help@glow360.com.
