Start with the addresses on this list. They sort the businesses far more usefully than the star ratings do, because the ratings are nearly identical across the board while the locations fall into three clear types.

Office-tower units are one group. Miracle Wax Parlour sits in Oxley Tower on Robinson Road and WaxPro Beaute is in International Plaza on Anson Road, both in Tanjong Pagar. Those suit an appointment slotted around a working day in the CBD.

Mall units are the second. SkinGO! is in Hougang Mall in Hougang, SSkin is in Eastpoint Mall over in Tampines, and Blush @ Orchard, the most-reviewed listing here, is at 360 Orchard Road.

The third type is the neighbourhood shop. Wax Loft occupies a ground-floor unit at Block 408 Jurong West Street 42 in Jurong, the kind of place you walk to rather than plan a trip around.

What the numbers add

Singapore has 54 businesses listing back waxing. Of the 48 carrying a rating the average is 4.8 and 46 sit in the top band, so the stars separate almost nothing.
