The gym has improved since the pandemic with the addition of another weight room down the hall on top of the original room. This is a small gym, and meant to be a satellite addition to the much bigger Toa Payoh sports gym but unfortunately all the sports facilities in TP is now closed until 2024. Service has improved -- chat up with the friendly staff, Khamis, and he will be nice to you. Parking is very convenient and it adjoins the CC. Downsides: (1) U can only access the gym frm the carpark during early part of the morning as the lift is off. (2) some patrons sit at the equipment or mat to look at their phones and hog up the space. (3) towel size limit applies. Cannot be too small. (4) it's small gym, so adjust your expectation accordingly. Equivalent to a hotel or condo sized gym.
Remember to bring a towel! I’ve seen a few people turned away and asked to purchase a towel from a nearby mini mart. I was one of them too until today 🤣 As some have mentioned, the gym is on the petite side 🐜 and the range of strength training machines 🏋️♂️ is somewhat limited, but that could be a real plus for those who are not a fan of larger commercial gyms. 5 x treadmills (one of the screens is a bit dodgy, not sure if it will have been fixed by the time you visit!) 4 x stationary bikes 2 x ellipticals Hope for a rowing machine too! 🚣♂️ The strength training machines are hydraulic I think. Various machines for arm, chest, legs, and glutes. Don’t think I saw any for core/abs though! They are a touch rusty but work well. There is a water cooler at the stretching/weights area. No shower but bus stop/MRT is not far away, so hopefully you will get home soon from there 🛀🧼 I think they were going for a kind of eco-core aesthetic with wood veneers and artificial plants. Cute! 🪵🌳 A refreshing change from the steely vibes you might get elsewhere. Also adorable plush toys! (See photos) I visited on a Tuesday evening and it was not too busy (except for the treadmills). Enjoy! Wishing you good health and lots of fun throughout your fitness journey.:)
If you are out of luck booking the available time slots for the more popular gyms like the big Toa Payoh one, you will have to settle for this. This gym is located on the 3rd floor of the Toa Payoh West CC. There’s 2 separated rooms for this gym, one is for all the Cardio machines, and another pictured below is the Free Weights room. They are not connected, so if you want to switch between work outs, you have to awkwardly walk outside the corridor and go to the other room. The free weights room can overcrowd really quickly, as most equipments are limited in a single set of each. 1 cable machine, 2 bench, and 1 squat rack. Overall, if you are into doing a lightly workout using dumb bells, and some light bar bells, those are easy to share. Otherwise, skip this place if you are doing your heavy squat or dead lift sets.
(2022: this review is outdated as they’ve made changes since. See newer reviews.) Small gym, kind of like a hotel gym. Cool and well lit. Entered from the adjoining multi-storey car park, it’s located inside the Toa Payoh West CC, so floor space is limited. There are several machines, but no serious dumbbells (only up to 3kg), let alone barbells. The machines allow you to work out most but not all muscle groups. Rows and bicep curls are examples of moves not catered for. This gym is more for those just looking for time on the treadmill.
The gym is comfortable and ideal for a less crowded workout.
