Gabriel Tan Studio is a design practice working at cultural intersections, reinterpreting tradition, craft, and technology with contemporary sensitivity. Founded by Gabriel Tan in 2016 and operating between Singapore and Porto, the studio creates furniture and products that honour heritage while embracing modern life—redefining luxury and challenging conventions through materiality, craftsmanship, and form.
The practice collaborates with internationally renowned brands including B&B Italia, ClassiCon, Herman Miller, Louis Poulsen, and CondeHouse. It also provides creative direction for the Japanese furniture brand Ariake and develops craft-driven collections through its own brand, Origin Made. Through its interior arm, Studio Antimatter, the team undertakes selective residential and hospitality interior design projects.
Gabriel’s work has received international recognition such as the Industrial Designers Society of America’s IDEA Award and the Japan Good Design Award. In 2025, he received the Singapore President’s Design Award for Designer of the Year and was named Louis Poulsen’s first-ever Designer of the Year. He has guest-lectured at institutions including Lasalle College of the Arts, National University of Singapore, University of Oregon, and Pratt Institute, and served as a jury member for the Cannes Lions Festival and Core77 Design Awards. Works by the studio have been shown internationally, with recent and upcoming showcases including The House of Making: Ariake & Origin Made at 3daysofdesign Copenhagen 2026 and Shining a Light: Washi Lamps Collection at Lisbon Design Week 2025.
